I have a 17 inch flat screen Dell monitor that came with my PC when I bought it less than 3 years ago. When I go to use my computer, and turn it on, the screen wont light up all the way. The best way I can describe it is like an old kitchen florescent light that has to warm up to turn all the way on. The power light will stay on, and stay green, but the monitor struggles to power up all the way. Once it does, it goes black. If I turn it off then on it will flicker and shut off again. I have tried unplugging it and then plugging it back in, but it does the same thing.
Is this thing ready to go to pasture?
Thanks in advance!

Sounds like the backlight or the inverter is on the way out the door.
You could pay someone to fix it, but that would not be cost effective. Your best bet would be to sell it on ebay to someone who can do it themselves and then use that money towards a new one.
You can buy a 17" LCD from a retail store for around 100 bucks these days.

Try to start your computer in safe mode.Press F8 when your screen comes on, if you can see it.If the monitor works then, you've been infected with some nasty stuff.Run a full scan with your anti-virus and anti-spyware while you're still in safe mode.If it doesn't work in safe mode, check and make sure the cable from computer isn't lose.If it's tight, then I would say you need a new monitor.

Open the monitor and try to solder.
