Hi I bought Windows XP Hard Driver 320 GB.
I installed XP on to that 320 hard drive.
when I was installing the Set Up screen was showing 131000 MB ( 131 GB) unpartioned space.
at that time Ignored it, I was like it will show 320 gb in actual after xp is done installing, but even after XP was done installing it only shows me 131 GB. total space
please help me what to do.
other than returning the Hard Drive to Best Buy.

A BIOS update to your computer might help.

try to switch your Hard Drive Jumper or switch it to master or slave

If I'm not mistaken you need to install windows xp sp2 for the large drive support. Original XP disk won't recognize it.

Mine has done this before to fix this problem I used "Norton Partition Magic" Not sure how you spell it but download and use it to expand the size of the partition. I had to do this before my pc was showing 4 gb and was running out of memory then I used that to maximize the space and got it to the full 94 GB. Thankz delv~

You most likely have mutiple partitions, to figure this out goto
Start > Run > type diskmgmt.msc and hit enter
Disk Management should come up showing you every Volume on your computer try and find your hard drive and see if it's status is active.
If it is not active the dark blue line should be black. If you want to merge the partitions so you can have all 320GB on one hard drive you will need to reformat your computer or you can use Linux.
Linux has a open source application that will allow you to merge the partitions or there one that you can buy called PartitionMagic.
If you want to use it as a secondary partiton right click the disk that has the black line on top and click format once thats done
right click it again and select change drive letter and paths
Click add. . .
Under the assign the following drive letter select what letter you want it to be and hit o.k
You should now have to hard drives under your computer

Situation happened to me 2 months after my hard disk crashed. Got me a new hard disk and started to install all my programs one by one. My hard drive has an actual disk space of 465 GB (It is a 500 GB hard drive). By the time, I have finish reinstalling all my programs, my actual disk space is down to 380 GB only. Was concerned because I thought that all my programs took up almost 85 GB of space.
Did some searching and understood that my new vista system allocates a maximum of 15% of hard drive space for system restore points alone.
I ran my McAfee registry cleaner and that liberated out almost 65 GB worth of disk space. (Back to 445 GB). During the analysis process, I notice that system restore points alone took up almost 50 GB
I understand that this kind of situation usually happens during initial installation. Many new programs are installed and therefore many system restore points are created.
Hope this helps
