You need to find out who manufacturers your hard drive.
Seagate
Western Digital
Etc
You'll have to open your case for that unless you know. With that information head to the manuf website and DL their free disc utility. There will be an ISO to burn to a CD that will allow you to boot to it when you start the computer.
Once inside the utility you can write zeros to your drive. Do that. It takes a while so be patient. Once you do that EVERYTHING will be gone, BUT, the hard drive will be factory fresh, no files.
Now restart your install from the Vista disc and it should run fine.
