Windows xp professional 2000 was my OS.
First problem i came across is "DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS" missing in "c:\". I disabled " show hidden files and folders in folder options" but the folder account which i logged in is hidden(say some transperancy). Search option is not working.
Second problem One folder is missing in "d:\". Its approximately of 4.8gb. Some sub-folders also missing in tht particular missing folder. BUT I CAN ABLE TO ACCESS THOSE FOLDERS MANUALLY BY TYPING ITS LOCATION IN THE ADDRESS BAR IN MYCOMPUTER. My folders are still in the disk.
Some folders are missing in e:\ and f:\ drives.
I formatted my c:\ and reinstalled OS. I got error MSG. One is "Windows is recovered from serious error and another windows explorer.exe error. If i click anything system hangs up.
Again today i formatted. Now no problem. But some folders are missing which are still on the disk. My search option is missing, but it can able to produce result of my missing fldrs. Antivirus not works

If I were you, I would copy all of your missing folders onto an external device (flash drive, dvd, hard drive) and reformat all of your internal disks. If you can't use Windows Explorer to copy it to whatever, try using the copy command from the command prompt.

Your computer has a very simple error.
Sadly, nothing you can do will fix it, excepting for one solution.
Your hard drive or power supply are failing, you need to buy new ones. Sorry to tell you!
At this moment, you might consider buying a new computer, after all you have nothing to lose, you already formatted…
P.S. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your question, it was intelligent and had a point, unlike so many others on here.
