I have recently upgraded from Norton to Norton 360. The reason I did this was because my 'live update' stopped working and it was almost time to renew my subscription.
Now Norton 360 is telling me that 'live update ' is running in the 'background' or 'in another process'. However the main Norton 360 window shows that my 'puter is at risk of unknown virus infections. Also my desktop icon has a cross inherent to it.
I'm fairly certain that this can't be right. If this is normal then I'm worrying for nothing but if it's not, any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any advice my yohoo compadres,

Hi Cedric,
This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team responding to your question about Norton 360.
First, the default and recommended setting for LiveUpdate is "Automatic," which means that as long as your computer is logged in to Windows and you are connected to the internet, LiveUpdate will automatically check for and install updates up to 3 times per day. It appears that when you tried to run LiveUpdate manually, it was already checking in the background, which is why you received the message.
The other symptoms you describe point to a problem with your installation or a possible software conflict. First, make sure that the Windows Firewall is disabled, as the Norton Personal Firewall is handling that for you and you never want to have two firewalls running at the same time. Also, please make sure that you do not have any other 3rd party antivirus or internet security applications installed, as they will cause conflicts.
After checking the items I mentioned, the easiest way to resolve this issue is to properly uninstall Norton 360 and reinstall the application. Please follow the steps below to properly uninstall and reinstall Norton 360.
1. Click on the following link to download the Norton Removal Tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039?Open&docid=2001074957656166&nsf=sunset-c2002kb.nsf&view=0
2. After you run the tool, please restart your computer. Then log in to Windows again and run the removal tool again. Restart your computer after it is finished running the second time as well.
3. Make sure that your internet connection is working properly, and then reinstall Norton 360. Towards the end of the installation process, the LiveUpdate feature will automatically run and download and install updates to both the program files and definition files.
4. When the installation is complete, please manually run LiveUpdate to make sure that all of the updates are downloaded and applied. To do so, Click Start-> All Programs->Norton 360->LiveUpdate. LiveUpdate will run again and download and install any additional updates that are available. When this is complete, close the LiveUpdate window by clicking the "Finish" button.
5. Next, run a Full System Scan on your computer to make sure that it is not infected. To do so, open the main Norton 360 window from the Start menu and then click on the "Scans" link at the top of the window. Next, click on "Comprehensive Check" and then click on the "Go" button.
Please let me know if this process resolves your issue.
Thank you,
Mike
