Advice with manually deleting spyware?Antivirus 2009…?

July 15th, 2008 · 4 Comments

I have Antivirus 2009 on my computer.

I deleted the application in task manager and that killed the pop ups.

Then i went to the processes in task manager but could not find any of the antivirus files listed on internet sites (av8000.anti -just a made up example). I couldnt see any of the files in the processes file list. Does this mean they are all gone?

I cannot find any trace of 'Antivirus 2009', all i did was:
-delete the files/folders that i found using a search for files and folders
-deleted te antivirus application in the task manger.
-deleted the file in add or remove programs/control panel and emptyed the recyle bin

Is this enough to kill it?

I didnt delete the suggested regestory valves because i dont know how?

Have i killed it?

Antivirus 2009 is a new rogue anti-spyware program. It is also a clone of Antivirus 2008 - also a rogue, and one that's produced more clones than any other recently. The list of these clones is long: System Antivirus 2008, Ultimate Antivirus 2008, Vista Antivirus 2008, XP Antivirus 2008 etc.

Like any other of it's predecessors, Antivirus 2009 uses trojans, such as Zlob or Vundo, to spread. These trojans lurk in porn/warez websites disguised as video codecs, and, upon entering the system, floods the user with popups and fake system notifications, supposedly to inform him of an infection. While the system at hand may indeed be infected, Antivirus 2009 will inform the user of this regardless of whether it's true or not. The point of this disinformation is to convince the user he is infected and therefore needs an antispyware program to dispose of the threat. The user might click on one of the popups or notifications, all of which claim they will take him to a legitimate security tool, but try to make him purchase Antivirus 2009's "licensed version" instead.

Antivirus 2009 is a scam and should be treated as such: do NOT download or buy it and block it's homepage using your HOSTS file.

      Manual removal of Antivirus 2009:
Antivirus 2009 Manual removal means that you have relevant skills for managing .dll files and PC registry. After you remove Antivirus 2009 manually (in case you have choisen this way of Antivirus 2009), we still highly recomend you due to the reasons explained above to perform free scan for malware. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Antivirus
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\W… = “%ProgramFiles%\Antivirus 2009\Antvrs.exe”

I personally recommend you to use webroot spysweeper which i having being use for a year now. It's the best that is available in the market now

Go to link below and download Spyware Doctor, this is the free starter edition. Install, update, and run full system scan. This should take care of your problem.

use this site as a guide to delete files :

Antivirus 2009 generates fake warning popup messages to scare and trick users into punching a "full" version of Antivirus 2009. Users should not trust Antivirus 2009 and they should remove it as soon as possible from their computer system!
