Ok so heres the deal, I was trying to get vista themes to work, i looked up this tutorial, it told me to rename three dll files in system 32 to a .old extention, so i did so. Now when i boot, and try to sign in, my laptop tells me that it can’t find the files since it is searching for the .dll files. I have no idea what to do now, i cant even get into safe mode. Is there any way that i can load a command prompt without booting the OS that will still access the hard drive? i really dont feel like reformatting, idk where i put the disks dell gives you for this kinda problem haha…
Also, forgot to add, My plan is just to rename these changed files from .old to .dll because that should fix the problem, i just have no way to access the files. Keep in mind i cant boot to safemode, i cant boot to anything. And command prompt runs through safe mode…

Congratulations on screwing up your computer to the point of a reinstall.

This is impossible on the Macintosh. The user cannot move, delete, edit, or rename important System files.
Insert restore disc. Boot from the CD. Reinstall Windows. Download and install Windows updates to get it back up to date. Reinstall software that broke when you reinstalled Windows. Go to bed. You have to get up Monday morning and you pissed away your entire weekend fixing your Windows computer.
This is one of the many reasons I use Macs. An OS reinstallation is a two hour job, max. If you want to work on your computer, get a PC. If you want to work with your computer, get a Mac.

System Restore.
Insert your original OS disk. Boot from the Disk & select the Repair option. This will get you to a command prompt to change back the file names.
Now some free advice: Never, Never, NEVER change the extension of a DLL (Dynamic Link Library) file, unless you absolutely know what you are doing. Reading someones tutorial doesn’t mean you KNOW what you’re doing.
