Please, please, PLEASE can anyone give me the name of some GOOD, RELIABLE antivirus and antispyware software that’s FREE!
I’ve tried Comodo, Spyware Terminator, Super Anti Spyware, and AVG….it’s not happening.
THANX!

If you want a free anti-virus I recommend in order of popularity, but please choose the right one for you (install only one):
1. AVG Free
a. A simple interface (easier to use than Avast! and Avira)
b. Can detect about 82.82% of viruses
Cons: low virus detection
2. Avast!
a. Real-time protection
b. It has an option to delete a virus once found
c. Can detect about 87.46% of viruses.
Cons: Too many icons and confusing user interface
3. Avira AntiVir
a. It can detect malware better than Avast and AVG
b. It's cute umbrella icon
c. Can detect about 94.26% of viruses
Cons: A very sluggish update
If you also want free anti-spyware and I would recommend getting Spybot Search and Destroy and SUPERAntiSpyware. Comodo also has a great free firewall.

Avast! (Avast is better than AVG) and Spyware Terminator. Both free for life, and reliable, and good.

Just a heads up.
Spybot Search and Destroy ONLY find “Spybots” and IS NOT real time. It only searched for them when you make the program search for them. It’s good for getting rid of spybots, but not for use as an aanti-virusprogram.

I would try Avast. I have recently started using it I would say it is pretty good. If yo find the interface confusing, I know that there are simpler skins for the program that you can download. I do not know where you download and apply them though. I am new to the program. I also switched from AVG. I didnt have a problem with AVG I just thought that since Avast is getting more popular I might as well use it. DO NOT NAD I REPEAT DO NOT BUY ANY NORTON OR SYMANTEC ANTIVIRUS PROGRAM, they are not good at all, and even eat up computer resources. Do me and yourself a favor and do not buy Norton or any pay anti virus program.

The other answers are good ones. Alot of people I know use AVG. But, I think it is a good idea to go to http://www.filehippo.com. Filehippo is a great site with alot of free software and in most cases, older versions, as well. The reason I mention it is, on the homepage, they list the most popular downloads. You can see how many times different programs have been downloaded by others. This may not always indicate what is best, but it gives you a great place to start. You may also use the site to look at features of the different ones and compare for yourself.

What did you not like about AVG. I use them all the time. Also, remember that you get what you pay for. If you are relying on a free product, you are getting minimal upgrades and support. Anti-virus is one of those products that you should pay for if you don’t want to pay for costly virus and mal-ware problems later. I have removed viruses that took up to 10 hours. I have to charge my customers for my time and 10 hours of billable time would be more than most PCs and laptops are worth.

Although AVG is pretty reliable, other programs you may want to check out are
Spybot Search and Destroy

Ad-Aware
lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php
Those have really worked for me and both are free. So hope that helps.

Avast anti-virus better definitions, anti-spyware and anti-rootkit built in, faster and more reliable:
