It has changed my desktop background. It has changed my homepage into a constant reminder that i have spyware on my computer. Every other time that i try and go to a website they want to remind me that its unsafe and that i should buy their product to make it safe. Its changed my screen saver into a mimic of a virus. AND when i try to uninstall it it just doesnt uninstall BUT i never ever remember installing it. Has anyone else had this problem? What can i do to get rid of this?

Try these following steps:
1) Run the removal process for getting rid of Antivirus XP 2008:
http://ultcomprepair.blogspot.com/2008/07/xp-antivirus-20082009.html
2) Then it would be best to complete a full process for virus/spyware removal. It's long but very effective:

Everything I listed here is 100 percent free of charge. Sounds like your Infected bad. Follow my directions exactly:
1) First un-install your current Anti-virus Program now this may seem scary at first but it is vital.
2) Go to http://www.avast.com and download the home version
3) Update avast! and then run a boot time scan to detect any nastys that may have been hiding in memory.
===NOTE===
avast! I think is one of the best Anti-virus program there is. Other people may recommend AVG, but AVG has bad detection rates and a bad User Interface. If you have any question about Anti-virus programs or about anything feel free to e-mail me.
4) Go to http://www.ccleaner.com and download and run the tool
5) Next go to http://www.safer-networking.org and download Spy Bot Search and Destroy, update it and run a scan.
===NOTE===
There are other anti-spyware applications out there like Spy-ware Doctor and Windows Defender, But Spy-ware Doctor has had a seedy past and Windows Defender has bad detection rates.
6) Now this my seem like it gets a bit redundant but it is vital to make sure your computer is clean.
7)Next run an online scan by going to http://www.google.com and then type in ***Bitdefender Online Scan*** minus the stars of course.
9) Now if you followed my instruction you should have a 100 percent clean computer
10) To prevent further infections make sure that you are using Mozilla Firefox ( http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/as )as your default web browser along side Mcafee Site Advisor for Firefox ( http://www.siteadvisor.com/download/ff.html )
Now I love getting e-mails so if you have a Question feel free to e-mail them to me! Sometimes it may be a day or two before I have time to answers them though.

Try using SmitfraudFix, it usually takes care of rogue anti-spyware infections:
http://www.2-viruses.com/smitfraudfix-tutorial.html
If that fails, you can always try the manual removal method, which is neither simple nor recommended:

Good luck

I got the same POP-UP INVITATION the other day telling me I had an infection, and to download their program.
I DID NOT because I already knew it was a hijacking program.
The nasty program is classified as a “problem application” by Symantec. This culprit reports problems that do not exist in order to force you to buy their product, and it’s very hard to get rid of the pesky thing:
The solution is to get rid of the program.
You will need removal tools
A. Symantec instructions
B. Hijack This
C. AVAST
A. Here is Symantec a write-up:
http://www.symantec.com/security_respons…
Important: you don’t need to purchase Norton, as AVAST and excellent FREE anti-virus tool and will clean any virus just fine…
so I’ll give you that info below too.
Note: When follow the Symantec removal instructions, when you get to the part about disabling System Restore, make yourself a posty note to remember to ENABLE system Restore when you are finished.
=====================================
B. Also, look for the culprit program using this tool.
Use CAUTION as to what you remove.
Get free anti-hijacking tool
for any hijack problems you might encounter
1. The program is called HiJackThis 1.99
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.h…
2. Download and run the program
BE CAREFUL what you delete
from it’s findings…because
it will find the offending program
and others that you may NOT want to delete.
Only delete the one that hijacked you.
=====================================
When all is done, run AVAST
Avast free Home Edition
Get it here:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.ht…
And please do a “thorough” scan as soon as you get it downloaded. The user interface is simple. Click the left side, and in the top menu that comes up, select thorough scan.
When it finds a culprit it throws up an alarm, then you DELETE the culprit, (do not quarantine).
Then allow it to run all of the time, and you will be completely protected. It will “automatically” update itself, also for free.
You only need to renew your registration once a year, also free.
Note: I know of several people who have used AVG and gotten a virus anyway.
I’ve tried them all, and have had wonderful results with this one for the last 5 years.
