Antivirus/Internet Security Suite?

April 3rd, 2008 · 6 Comments

Anyone used a certain antivirus or internet security product for years and still stick to it because of its efficiency? And, which is more suitable for me? Antivirus or Internet security? The computer is on at least 5 hours a day and is connected to the internet always.

I would recommend ZoneAlarm's Security Suite.

I have my system on almost the whole day, and its firewall is just the best out there.

The winning combo for me is the anti virus engine, which uses the same one as Kaspersky.

      No complaints from me.

BTW I have evaluated Norton 360 as well…its not as good.

Its better to use internet security. It provides realtime scanning for viruses, malware and spyware even spam.

Usually, internet security licenses expire two to three years after you purchase it so you need to buy a new one.

If you haven't got any security yet, (assuming you are using WinXP) you may use Window SP2 and Windows Defenders. You can get those from Microsoft security center.

If you are using computer to handle sensitive data, e.g. e-banking, you should use Windows SP2 and a good antivirus (with anti-spyware). You need to disable the antivirus of Windows SP2 but set the firewall into reject all. Then you also need to update your anti-virus & anti-spyware daily.

If you are often attacked by virus, spam etc., you need security suite.

However, if you don't want to spend any time in caring your computer, you need to use Mac. Mac-mini would be a good choice. Nevertheless, you need to set the firewall in Mac to "block all" and install Norton's Antivirus which also include anti-spyware.

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from the following linkhttp://www.computeractive.co.uk/. On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps

I suggest going with a suite the best money can buy is kaspersky

The top rated Antivirus/Spyware suite by those who test antivirus programs (av-comparitives, virus.gr, etc) is Kaspersky
(I have used this to clean up machines that nothing else would work on.
you can read the reviews and download a 30 day free trial here.
      http://www.download.com/3120-20_4.html?qt=Kaspersky&tag=srch&tg=dl-20
After cleaning up your computer I suggest buying it, if you can’t afford it then These 3 free tools will help you keep your computer clean ~ Patrick

Check out the video review below for the best free Antivirus program

The Top Rated Free Antivirus Program researched from those who test Antivirus programs (av comparatives, virus.gr, and other reviews including this video review) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhXZo3dHulc is
      Avira Antivir http://www.download.com/Avira-AntiVir-PersonalEdition-Classic/3000-2239_4-10322935.html?tag=lst-1

Today you are in more danger from Spyware I Download, Install, Update and Run SuperAntiSpyware
      http://www.download.com/SUPERAntiSpyware-Free-Edition/3000-8022_4-10523889.html?tag=lst-2
( I used this to remove spyware and Trojans from a laptop that adaware would only detect but not get rid of ) It detected and removed everything

Download and Run Advanced Windows Care Personal
http://www.download.com/Advanced-WindowsCare-Personal/3000-2086_4-10407614.html?tag=lst-1, this will tune up your system and show you what starts at bootup, and allow you to edit this.
(uncheck the Registry tab, but check the Spyware, Security and startup tabs and see what is starting up and disable harmful items.
