Any good,free, recommended, antivirus/spyware?

  I use these programs to clean friends computers.
  It helps speed up the system and usually
  works every time unless there is some very unusual virus on the system.
  They are all free.

  1)Get spybot search and destroy, install, update and run.

  the apsolute best Antivirus &anti adaware are as follows

  Antivirus: alwil avast home edition 4.7

  antispyware/antiadaware: install both microsoft windows defender & spybot search and destroy.

  these are the best
  you can get them all at download.com except for i believe microsoft windows defender you need to go to microsoft.com to get that one download.com is virus,spyware,adaware,malware free.

  1. Avira antivir personal - best free antivirus software
  2. Moon Secure - has real time and a good open source antivirus with basic antispyware capabilities
  3. Avast home edition - good antivirus with spyware detection capabilities although still generate lots of false positives
  4. AVG - good for only basic protection. misses most dangerous malwares.
  5. Bitdefender free - a good antivirus but does not have real time.
  6. Clamwin antivirus - another open source good for basic protection only.
  7. AOL antivirus - late users still uses the kaspersky 5 engine. New users uses the mcafee engine and has also a free security suite on their site (also of mcafee engine)
  8. PC tools antivirus free - not yet tried and tested this one.

  This one is the most trust-worthy (even for a Microsoft product)

  PcTools has an excellent one also, but its only free for 30 days then its $40 a year. =o)
