Are any of these safe to uninstall?

November 1st, 2009 · 5 Comments

I want to clean up my computer a little bit, hoping to make it go faster, but I don’t know if some of these are ok to uninstall or not! I’m just going to list the stuff that I am a little iffy about.

High Definition Audio Driver Package
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable
Move Media Player
MSXML 4.0 SP2
MSSML 4 Parser
NVIDIA Drivers
NVIDIA nView Desktop Manager
QuickTime
SigmaTel Audio
System Requirements Lab
Windows XP Service Pack 3
Yahoo! BrowserPlus

Some of the stuff might be important and I know that.. I just don’t know what they are! lol
awesome thanks to everyone :)

      QuickTime: For playing .mov and .m4v video files
      Yahoo! BrowserPlus: garbage browser add-on

      Everything else looks important for the use of your machine or for developing Visual C++ applications.

      All of those programs and installments are pretty safe except for, Sigmatel Audio, and MSSML 4 Parser.

      Sigmatel Audio can cause multiple viruses based on what kind of computer you have, for example. If you have a windows, you computer might be risking low privacy settings and viruses that can cause your computer to shut down automatically. If you have a mac, high risk cookies can spread throughout your entire system and your files risk being deleted automatically or being unknowingly spread throughout the web.

      MSSML 4 Parser is very unreliable and can cause lot’s of spam if you’re e-mail is within reach of MSSML 4 Parser. Also, this program is fatal to macs, it can cause file overloads leading to your computer having 8 minute loads. Same situation with windows, although it risk a very large virus including permanent shut down and 10 min. loads.

      All of the other programs you have listed are pretty well protected and satisfactory with safety! :) Hope this helps!

      Optional things you can uninstall if you don’t use them:
      Quick Time
      Yahoo Browser Plus
      Move Media Player

      Things you should keep no matter what:
      High Definition Audio Driver Package
      Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable
      MSMXML 4.0 SP2
      MSSML 4 Parser
      NVIDIA Drivers
      NVIDIA nView Desktop Manager
      Windows XP Service Pack 3
      SignmaTel Audio
      System Requirements Lab

      Actually, even if you remove the few programs that you can remove, it won’t do much for speeding up your computer. To really speed up your computer, open your Internet Browser, click on TOOLS, INTERNET OPTIONS, and delete all of your browsing history, cookies, etc. Then, install Spy Bot Search and Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html and run it and remove everything it finds. After that, restart your computer. Your computer should run much faster now. Make sure you have a valid anti virus program on your computer as well, if not download one for free by visiting http://free.avg.com/us-en/download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition
