Auto-protection on Norton Anti-Virus not wanting to come back on even tho the check mark has been checked??

My Norton Anti-Virus auto-protection thing is saying that it's turned off but when I looked at it,the box had a check mark saying that it was turned on already. So, should I reinstall the Norton Software in order for it to do properly or what should I do??????
