Windows Live OneCare did a scan and found a trojan, worm, and a virus when I did a full scan with Avast and it didn’t find anything so I want to get rid of it. And when I try to delete it, it says removing this will make some programs not work properly, I assumed scaring me to keep it, but I know better. So how am I supposed to get rid of Avast???!!!
I have Vista
I make sure Avast is ALWAYS updated!

I have avast, it usually find any virus at all….there is no need to get rid of it. You can go to http://www.avast.com and go to downloads, then go to updates and voila, you have to update every week for it to function well. If you really want to get rid of it, go to your hard drive (the one that says program files). Go to the folder that says avast, click it, and there should be a uninstall.exe Another way it control panel and remove program, if it says it’ll ruin other programs, it won’t, Norton told me the same thing, nothing happened. hope it helps good luck

You can try to uninstall anti virus security software from Revo uninstaller software.
http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html
Follow instruction :
Revo Uninstaller is a freeware uninstall utility much faster than Windows Add/Remove applet, which helps uninstall as well as easily remove additional unnecessary files, folders and registry keys that are usually left over on your computer.

First try to update the avast antivirus… (avast is a really reliable antivirus so i dont know what you are talking about) then schedule a boot time scanning of all your locak harddrives.
If that doesnt work, uninstall avast using the control panel - add/remove programs… or perform a system restore… system restore will remove all registration entries; that is the program will not be registered on your system anymore… then u can manually delete the program files… but be very careful!!!

I agree with the answerers who say that Avast is good and you shouldn’t remove it (I use and recommend it myself), but I feel it is better to answer the question that the asker asked rather something they didn’t…
Revo uninstaller as suggested above will probably work, but that answerer’s source (iyogi) is bogus because it gives none of the "more information" which he claims it will; it is for a paid service.
Another option if the Revo Uninstaller doesn’t work is to use Avast’s own uninstall utility:
