Avast! AntiVirus Question…?

August 17th, 2008 · 3 Comments

Someone sent me a link and I knew that it was probably something like a virus but I have Avast! and figured if I got a virus Avast! would get rid of it. Anyways, it was a virus and Avast picked it up. The only option was to hit “abort connection” for the virus. Is that what I’m supposed to hit because I think the virus might still be on my computer.

If you hit 'Abort Connection' then nothing will have been downloaded. Abort does just that, stops the malware from being downloaded. You can always rescan with Avast and if it finds anything it will soon let you know.
You can double check by carrying out an online scan with Housecall:

“Abort connection” means that the malware won’t anymore be downloaded to your computer… so it is safe.
