Avast running, spybot S&D & AdAware i run. Would spyware Terminator be better than Spybot & adaware?

May 12th, 2008 · 3 Comments

I have Avast running all the time on my computer. I have spybot S&D, & AdWare2007 that I run from time to time.
Would I be better to run Avast along with Spyware terminator? And uninstall spybot & AdAware?
I have found Avast to be good at picking up web bad sites. But not sure if they get them all. Spy bot gives me problems with my registry when downloading to install not quite sure how the registry part works.??? When I scan for problems there is never anything there. ad aware I can get rid of cookies ect. Very much working on my "L" plates when it comes to security.
I uninstalled AVG as it slowed my computer down severely.
It seems to take along time for my comp. to start up still. I have defraged, & that made no difference, to the start up speed.

You have to do certain things:
First, free up your hard disk space by deleting unnecessary programs from add/remove programs in control panel.
I would recommend you to delete spybot as its interface is very confusing especially in registry case . Spybot also changes your host file so delete spybot and ad-aware but keep avast as anti virus protection is necessary to keep your comp away from viruses.
Then go to start and then run . Type msconfig and then go to starup and then uncheck all those which you think are not necessary when you starup your comp .Ex: Adobe startup.
I would recommend you to download McAfee site advisor which will show you safe websites in green tick mark and bad in red and you can download it free from their site itself. I have all these in my comp and it shows no prob.
I hope this post will definately solve your prob.

I had the same combination for several years, then ran into problems with SpyBot. It took me a while to figure out that it WAS SpyBot, but when I uninstalled it, the registry problems stopped. I then hunted around, found SuperAntiSpyware, downloaded, installed and ran it, and Boy! Do I like it! I think I have the best combination now: Avast, Super AntiSpyware and Ad-Aware 2007. Try getting rid of SpyBot and try SuperAntiSpyware, I think you'll like it. Just be patient and give it time to run - it does a much more thorough search of files than SpyBot ever did.
