AVG 8, Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D - Are they all necessary to have? ?

August 20th, 2008 · 4 Comments

Awhile back I had a mass virus attack on my computer, AVG [7 at the time] alerted me about several viruses every few minutes as I used my computer.
I looked into other free anti-virus programs around the web and found Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy these couldn’t stop the attacks so I had to take my computer to Compucare.

Luckily they were able to remove the virus and stop the attacks successfully.

Anyways now that my computer is stable and hasn’t had an attack since then I’ve only been using AVG 8 to scan my computer routinely which also seems to have practically all of the features the other programs have.

So, my question is, is it necessary/essential to have Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy with AVG 8?

Other:
- I’ve read that AVG might not catch something that another program can.
- I’m not looking to be referred to another program.
- I’m just trying to free up some space on my computer.
"YES. Ad-aware is anti-adware and spybot is anit-spyware neither is anti-virus, however another good antivirus program is avast! YES IT IS NECESSARY THEY DO DIFFERENT THINGS!!"

AVG 8 has an Anti-Spyware and a Resident Shield component…

After I made sure no VIRUS was in my computer (with the help from my AntiVirus programs), I erased them because they took around 100.00MB on my computer! Now I have no problems at all w/o them.

However, if I think something’s wrong with my computer, I would download an AntiVirus for an one-time use.

BTW, I recommend you scan with a BETTER AntiVirus to make sure. AVG 8 is fine, but I heard Avair does the job better. Ad-Adware is good, but you don’t need Spybot. Ironically, it’s WORSE because having two AntiVirus on your computer isn’t effective at all and sometimes cause some problems.

If you are willing to pay some money on a better AntiVirus, purchase Kaspersky, the best one on the market, I think, and the most popular, too.
