AVG 8.0 update hell?

June 22nd, 2008 · 3 Comments

Hi

I have AVG free 8.0 and an internet connection (using a NETGEAR(tm) wireless adaptor and a NETGEAR(tm) wireless router) AVG keeps saying "The connection with the update server failed, but I can get thrugh to any site using firefox 3.0. I do not use a software firewall, but I asked a locel boffin and he says its not the hardware firewall within the firewall. This means I can't understand why avg cant connect to "free.avg.com", but I can.
Can anyone help me on this
Thanks in advance

It's proably because you might be using Firefox 3.0 as your default browser. Firefox is surely lots better than IE, but a lot of programs still don't recognize it. They'll go haywire and fail to connect to the internet if IE is not the default browser. Just make IE your default browser (Tools > Internet Options > Programs > Make Default) and then try updating AVG.

If it still fails to update, you may not have installed it properly. Try reinstalling it.

P.S. I use avast! Home, which doesn't have any problems with Firefox (my default browser). :)

Simply Uninstall AVG , it's not good , it has a terrible detection rate .

      the best free Anti-Virus is Avira Anti-Vir : http://www.free-av.com

AVG has proven itself to be a miserable performer at best. Missing almost 20%, while trying to detect known malware, in some tests.

for proof check the review on the av-comparatives .

for the above answerer : Anti-Virus updates has nothing to do with the web browser .
