My AVG Free edition has given me this message for about a month now “Invalid Update Control CTF File”. I did a search on the websites FAQ (www.free.avg.com) and it didn’t come up with anything relavent. I have been out-of-date for over a month now and I’m really getting worried I’ll get something on my computer without getting it updated.
Thanks!

best thing to do is to download the latest version, uninstall the current installation of avg, and install the new file
hope this helps

Delete all the *.CTF files in your C:\Users\All Users\avg8\update\download directory then try updates again. You should be okay now.

Deleting .ctf files works, just do a search on drive C: for CTF and sure enough it’s in, …\avg8\update, but not always in the paths specified by other users. I found 2 files, deleted them, and did updates, and I’M PROTECTED

Use Windows Explorer (right click on start/explore) , be sure to verify you are searching on drive C: and Vista users, make sure you are searching in “non index” mode (in case you have not indexed your drive C:), or nothing will show up

gman662 is correct, a whole new download is best, however, i am still on a 2.5k connection. Addicted’s workaround is more efficient for me, and seems to work correctly.
