Remove AVG and reinstall it. Sometimes programs just lose files.

as you by now have seen, EVERYONE is having this problem. Don”t uninstall AVG, it’s just suffering a little hangover this morning. Give it some time it will fix itself. To the guys saying get rid of AVG, YOU GUYS ARE CRAAAZZZYYY!!!!!!!

I had the same problem this morning. reinstalled it and the same thing happens, so we wait…

The latest update is buggy and the current error is a result. AVG is working on it and it should resolve itself in the next couple days. You are still protected and the last thing you want to do is get rid of your anti virus protection. Again this is just an update issue not a problem with the protection side of the software.

go to my source link (avg update page), and then download the updates and save them to a folder
then (in avg 8.0 free) go to tools -> update from directory
i just did this, and no ".bin missing" error
im sure it works in 7.5 too.

Seems like everyone using AVG is affected. I installed Avast! Antivirus and ran a scan which uncovered a corrupt .dll file. (avgcorex.dll) The path was: “Documents & Settings\all users\application data\avg8\update\backup\avgcorex.dll”. Avast listed it as a Trojan! My O/S is Win 2K-Pro.
Let me know if you find the same, and if so please post for others.

UPDATE .BIN error information… Aug 16th 2008

Currently the update for AVG Free v8 is corrupted… you will have to wait for AVG Technologies to address the issue with the update.
Reporting the issue again by other users here will not do any good util it is resolved.
The updates that your AVG currently have will still provide the protection it is setup to detect. In otherwords, not being able to get this update will not make your AVG Free ineffective and as soon as AVG Tech resolves the issue you will be able to update to the current virus definitions at that time.
So in short… please do not post to report the issue, its already known. Also please be patient until AVG Technologies can address the issue

I have already reinstalled AVG 8.0 and it still finds a missing bin file. I think AVG.com will have it fix. The program will work normally if you have not reinstalled it. Just will not be able to update it self for the scan progames.

Robert C has the best answer which is easy and works. Manually download the updates and then use tools/update from directory. I wish I had known earlier as I have uninstalled/reinstalled and wasted 2 hours.

seemed to work!!! if you reinstalled - download all 4 and update from directory.

Hi,
Ive have tried all the so-called fixes in this thread and none work! Nor does reinstalling it, gunna have to wait.
18 Big-M // Aug 20, 2008
The missing .bin file is a part of the set of update files sent everyday…it’s just that the .AVG update servers didn’t distribute the .bin file along with the other files that make up the virus database update, so the AVG program rejected todays update and is still using yesterday’s virus database. That means that you’re still protected and the program is working. AVG updates the program everyday, so at the very least the missing .bin file problem will be corrected within 24 hours.
DO NOT REINSTALL the program. When you do that you actually put your PC at greater risk because the AVG install file on the website will not include the most recent virus database - you will end up using a database that may be as much as a week old, maybe more. Just leave the program as is and the .bin problem will go away within the next 24 hours.

Hi
just follow “lucky” solution, update back working in less than a minute
thank you Lucky
20 ? // Aug 20, 2008
I tried Lucky’s solution, which seems like it works almost immediately, until I click update again, and then, once again, it says that the .bin is missing…I already re-installed AVG8, so I guess I just have to wait the glitch out before I can get the latest updates…I’ll definitely come in here next time instead of trying to fix it myself…
21 OnDFly // Aug 20, 2008
Lucky’s fix doesn’t work, it only gets the program to tell you that it’s updated, while no updates are proformed.

I just tried the manual update and , for now, everything is okay. just thought i'd mention that for those who have the free version, you need to go to the link below. there are 4 updates. two of which have today's date regarding a backdoor worm.
