AVG - What does it actually mean?

August 7th, 2008 · 8 Comments

So every time I scan my computer with AVG Anti-Virus Free, I sometimes will get a virus, but it tells me whether to heal or to move the virus to the vault. The question now is, what do both of them actually do?
What I mean is, when I get a virus, it gives me 2 options; "Heal" and "Move to Vault"

What does both of them actually do and when shoud I use them?

You’ll find sometimes spyware and viruses are linked to free software and when you delete them they either make the bundled program not work .. or just redownload when you fire up that paticular program.

AVG is horrible spend the 80 bucks and buy kapersky internet secuirty you wont regret it.

      Anti-Virus Guard

AVG means Anti-Virus Guard but does it Guard your PC ? NO, test it with this program & your see:

      http://www.eicar.org/anti_virus_test_file.htm

I sometimes will get a virus - well you should not if AVG Guards your PC but as your finding out it does not.

whether to heal or to move the virus to the vault - move the virus to the vault AVG is very poor at healing.

Why you should not use AVG 8.0

      1. It does not Guard as the name states
      2. Its a hog of a program
      3. It has a poor detection rate (82%)
      4. It fails a virus test.

@Race I - do you know what spaming is ?

Move to Vault puts the suspect file in the virus vault
Heal trys to remove the infection and if it cant it gets moved to the virus vault for deletion or recovery

here is the scoop on AVs. Putting the virus in a vault basically is like sticking a sick patient in quarantine. the virus spread is stopped and will no longer harm your computer. If you choose to heal the virus, you are basically trying to cure a sick person. Some times it works, sometimes it doesn’t. I have found AVG to be quite capable. The problems people have mention with it not “guarding” their PC may have encountered a virus that AVG does not yet have a definition for. AVG and Norton and most other AVs rely on virus signatures or definitions in order to protect you from them. This leaves them all vulnerable to new viruses that they have not received a definition for. Some AVs get a definition out faster than others. To catch these threats, I use a program called ThreatFire. It detects viruses based on their activity and what they are trying to do. This is called heuristic scanning. It does at times lead to false positives, but it asks you before it does anything.

One last item, AVG is now AVG 8.0. If you are still running an earlier version, you should upgrade to 8.0.

Always move them to the Vault, they are quarantined there and can do no damage.
AVG was ok up to V7.5, but sadly V8 does not live up to the earlier version.
I changed from AVG to Avast, which offers greater protection and is free:
Avast anti-virus better definitions, anti-spyware and anti-rootkit built in, faster and more reliable:

Ok Heal means it will locate the file and extract the virus and remove it. Move to vault means its going to quarintine it (not delete). From the Vault you can delete that file that is infected. When you put it in the vault its going to isolate the virus, which means it cant get out. You should get AVG 8.0 Free Edition..much better just type “download AVG 8.0 Free Edition” on google and download it (unless you have it already lol)
