Backup Whole Computer Onto External Hard Drive?

September 9th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I just got a western digital passport external hard drive with 320 gigs and a new laptop for college. Right now i am an engineering student in college and it is highly recommended to back up all your data. Is there a way for me to back up everything on my computer to the hard drive, and if i add new files on my computer and plug the external in it will synch the new files onto the external. Thanks

I use something called DriveImageXML to completely backup my harddrive.

      http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm

It makes an identical image of your harddrive to where you save it (to your external). Then if anything happens, you reinstall Windows, install that program, and use the Restore feature.

It doesn’t automatically sync though, you have to make backups periodically.
