i'm sure some of you heard recently about Trend Micro's website being hacked. I'm curious to know which firewall offers the highest level of protection and intrusion signatures. if you haven't worked with various firewalls, please do not answer. MORE IMPORTANTLY, I'M LOOKING FOR AN ANSWER FROM SOMEONE WHO HANDLES NETWORK SECURITY? pls don't cite a firewall program because it's free, and you're running it on your computer, and thus far you haven't had any known attacks. i'm looking for real information on which firewalls offer the absolute best protection? there's been well over a 1,000 posts on this question, but none of the answers seem to have came from people who knew what they were talking about. so please, don't answer if you don't know about network security

There is no known Firewall that will protect you from any and all intrusions.

first of all, one should find a firewall that knows how to detect intrusions. Then the firewall should have options to activate or deactivate shared networking. It also must have process monitoring, application monitoring and port tracking. Also must have a firewall to determine incoming and outgoing data. However if you want a good firewall check the matousec tests result. It is one of the best known independent testers on firewalls. Please bear in mind that 100% results does not necessarily mean that it's bug free. P.S. Personally I use webroot firewall. Some firewalls I have used in other pcs are: online armor free, kerio personal firewall 4, ghostwall, zonealaram pro, outpost pro, Kaspersky's anti-hacker, jetico personal firewall v.1 and v.2, kerio 2.1.4 (last of its free version) and comodo firewall pro. It is also a matter of personal preference and ease of use.
