I've been using AVG for the past year or so, and it's been working well enough for me. Then they upgraded to the new version 8.0, and I absolutely can't stand it. It slows down my computer and Internet considerably, and if I turn off some of its functions, it won't stop warning me that parts of it aren't working.
So I tried Avast, and I dislike that even more. I like AVG's easy interface, and the fact that you can just scan when you want to. Avast is far too frustrating, and doesn't seem to have the option of performing a scan when you want to.
What other good anti-virus programs are there?

Personally I think there aren't any better free anti-virus' out there. If you want antivirus' better than those, you will have to get something that will cost you. I'd personally suggest McAfee, it comes with everything, I have not detected a single virus on my pc since I installed it.
Helps you stay away from viruses in the first place and removes them as soon as it finds them on the harddrive.
It also comes with SiteAdvisor, Backup & Restoring of files and also Shredder, which helps you delete files permanently from the PC.
Also stops attacks of hacking from other people, records their IP and tells you their location, =)
Hope this helps.
