I have a sony vaio with windows vista, and my Norton trial just expired. I have spybot sd and adaware on recommendation from a friend, is that enough to protect my computer, or should i download something else as well?

I like Spybot, But I don’t really like Ad-Aware. Spybot would be a good one to have, because not only can you scan with it, it has a built in guard to stop any spyware from getting in, and also has a immunisation section where you can prevent your internet program from getting spyware built into it.
I haven’t used Spybot in a while, because my new computer came with Windows Defender, and I have been happy with that.

PLEASE DO NOT RENEW.
Here is some helpful information for you.
Download Spybot , download Defender, restart computer, then run Spybot. THESE 2 PROGRAMS ARE REALLY GOOD SPYWARE PROGRAMS.
Virus Protection– 2 programs of virus protection will conflict with each other and will actually cancel out the protection. .
Running Spybot and Defender, with EITHER Avast or Avg (great Free virus protection programs ) will keep a computer in good working condition.
Links Below are Programs that WILL Help. They are FREE.
I have Both AVG and Spybot on my computer.
AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5.519

Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.5.2

Avast

Ccleaner

There are alot of $ anti-virus and Internet security programs out there,
ie: Norton, McAfee, Panda, Bitdefender. If you would like to pay $
then get Kaspersky. I feel that is the best for your money.
Hope this helps.
Good Luck

Hi
You need a layered protection to protect your computer. But don't pile on too many. Two or more firewalls, or real-time antivirus or real-time antispyware will cause conflicts, so use one at most.
1. Firewall
Sunbelt Firewall or PC Tools Firewall
2. Sandboxes
GesWall or Sandboxie - both provide excellent security if used properly, but you'll need to read a bit about it to understand how it works. GesWall provides better protection than Sandboxie by default, but on some computers it slows down browsing a lot, if this happens switch to Sandboxie
3. Anti-virus
Avast or AVG or AntiVir
Avast has the most real-time shields, but also the most false-positives
AVG does not scan for unknown rootkits, the detection rates have been dropping and is bloated
AntiVir has the best virus detection but the free version does not have antispware
4. ThreatFire, this provides strong protection against zero-day threats
5. On-demand scanners
Superantispyware free and Malwarebytes Antimalware free are the best. You could also use Spybot Search and Destroy, remember to turn on the Immunization feature.
For browsing, use Mozilla Firefox or Opera instead of Internet Explorer (or its clones Avant, Maxthon, etc) or Safari. Firefox and Opera are much safer and you'll be less likely to be infected.
Always have a good image backup - Paragon Drive Backup Express is the top choice. Regularly backup your files as well - Cobian Backup, Syncback, are some good choices. You could also use Mozy free (2GB online backup). The reason for this is if malware infects your computer you still won't lose your data.
