I was having trouble with my floppy disk drive so I read that disabling the drive in the BIOS would help solve this. When i did this i got the error, " Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file."
Now I went back to and changed the BIOS to the default settings but the problem is still continuing. I know I could reinstall windows or insert my recovery disk, but I do not have one at the moment.
Can anyone help me with this problem? Any answers are much appreciated. Thanks.

H A L is your hardware abstraction layer…..basically the hardware that's recognized by windows in your specific system. You need to either run a repair from the CD or format and reload. Not much other option.
