can anyone help me in using the correct settings for my kaspersky internet security?

i recently installed a free version of the kaspersky internet security software. i was able to successfully install it, but everytime its active, my internet browsers, internet utilities and other software despite being connected to the internet, keep failing to connect. the only option i have that seems to be working is disabling kaspersky while browsing, which is kinda contrary to what an internet security program should be doing.
