Can I copy .dll files from one drive to another? HOW?

May 3rd, 2008 · 2 Comments

I crashed one system that I was working on. I get this message now:

"Windows could not start becuase the following file is missing or corrupt.

<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll

Please re-install a copy of the above file."

So can I take the hard drive out, put it in my computer, and copy the hal.dll to the apropriet folder, and how. Both systems are running xp home.

I do understand how to slave the other drive, so you dont ahve to explain that.
ALSO , i do not have the original XP Home disk, as it did not come with one.

thanks for your help
OK, I copied the .dll file, i dont know what I was thinking.
now i get an error saying
load needed DLLs for kernel

Right-click on the file. Copy. Go to the same directory on the other drive. Right-click. Paste.

You thought there was a trick because it's a .dll file? :)

go to <Windows root=usually c\windows>\system32 on your pc's hard disk, copy hal.dll, go to ?\windows\system32on the failed win disk and paste it, that's it
