I have been using Windows 7 for several months, first the beta and now the RC. About a week ago I started getting error messages saying things wouldn't run because MSVCR71.DLL is missing. I did disk checks to make sure there was not a hard drive problem that might be corrupting files. I tried to restore the system to before the problem came up, but found out that it hadn't been creating restore points in the first place. A search of the hard drive says that MSVCR71.DLL shows up in 28 places. The error message tells me to reinstall. I am not interested in reinstalling the whole operating system to get this fairly minor problem fixed. Has anybody run into this? Do you know a better solution? btw, if you are going to write to tell me to go to the Win 7 forums at Microsoft, save your fingers. For some reason when I post questions there I can never get back in with the same login to interact on the answers.

You will need to get a copy of the file, then use regsvr to reinstall it. After wards you will be good. Make sure to put it into the system 32 folder. Here is a site that will give you a quick overview of manually registering a dll.
