Can I Have McAfee and Ad-Aware On The Same Computer?

July 17th, 2008 · 2 Comments

The reason i want Ad-Aware and McAfee is because McAfee doesn't find anything.

Yet on my old computer Ad-Aware found lots of cookies etc.

Btw my McAfee is the all in one security suite with tools to block spyware, adware and viruses etc. Everything basically

So is it ok to have both of them running on my computer?

Update* - The Ad-Aware is the free version 2008!

and my McAfee is the paid version

Thanks for you help in advance!

      In one word? Yes.

You can only run one anti-virus as any more would find conflicts and result in false positives, but you can run as many adware / spyware programs as you like.

I would dump McAfee even though it is paid for. The best anti virus program that I have found is AVG. They have a free version that finds everything. You want to make sure that whatever you put on the system uses the auto-update feature of the software.

You can find the AVG Free version at the attached link. It is also always a good idea to use Windows Defender.

In battle to prevent infections from virus, you must also make sure to use the Windows Update (best to automate install of updates).
