Yes, you can. Save the .exe file onto the harddrive.

No.
They both write keys to the registry. It can’t be run on a computer that it’s not installed on.
You can launch the installer from the portable hard drive but you can’t install the program on it and carry it to another PC.

No, you can’t install it to the hard drive so it runs anywhere, pretty much every installation adds things to your registry, which is almost always on your c:\.
The nearest thing you can do is put the installers on your portable drive and install them to different computers.

You will definitely have problems if you try to run Limewire on a new computer. It needs more than the code that gets saved on the hard drive to run properly
As for AVG– I'm not entirely sure, but at the very least, it'd be tricky to keep an up-to-date version on your external hard drive.

I don’t think this is possible because aplications like this write keys in the registry which is ussually included in the OS, so when you install it on portable hard drive it won’t be there completely

You can save the INSTALL file you downloaded onto the external, but installing the programs there and going comp to comp wont work. When you run the install file it dumps a few .dll into the main windows drive (generaly C:) When you bring your passport to a new comp those files will be missing. I recommend installing it to the pass port, then saving the install files there as well. When you get to a new comp run the install files again and overwrite the files already on the passport during your second install on the second comp. Minimal files will be left on the second comp and it will run mostly from your passport. The re install will insure the appropriate registry keys and .dll get installed.
