I sent an email to a help thing on at&t yahoo that didnt help me at all. they referred me to a "fee based" number, said i didnt have the latest version of the security and that might be why my computers spyware scanner can't delete the spyware.
So like i said just now, when i delete it with the scanner it pops back up later, it changed my background, i get pop ups, most of them being ads for spyware removers that want me to download or "buy online". idk if i can trust those. my yahoo browser work sbut ie doesnt. to upgrade my security/install anti virus, i dont have enough memory. is there anything i can do to fix it that doesnt require me buying a memory upgrade? and if not, how much will that cost? im seeing if anyone can give me suggestions here, before i have to see about the geek squad.

Phony pop-up alert boxes, background changes or "balloon" pop-ups from the tray (by the clock) about a trojan, virus or spyware infection and the attempt to sell you some useless software to "fix" the problem usually indicates that your computer has a Smitfraud infection. DO NOT DOWNLOAD OR BUY THE PRODUCT THEY TRY TO SELL YOU! IT IS SCAM. It is really extortion-ware, first they infect your machine, then they want $$$ to remove it.
Sounds like your computer may have a variant of this ubiquitous Smitfraud infection.
Almost all "general purpose","all-in one" spyware and virus removal programs such as AVG Anti-virus, Norton, McAfee or Spybot S & D cannot remove it, as you may have already found out.
Free specialised Smitfraud removal tool is here (SmitfraudFix)

After running SmitfraudFix, to clean-up any remaining infection traces, scan for trojans,
and spyware and remove (free online scan, no downloaded program) with Ewido Online Scanner ( now known as AVG Anti-Spyware). This is NOT the same as AVG Anti-Virus. Press "Online Scan" on the right.

Good luck.

I remember at&t, they stink
if you can get cavalier, do it 1/2 the price, $45, and 200 times faster.
Cavalier techies are proud of their company and so helpful.
They sent us a new dsl modem and 5 techs called to make sure it is great. They partnered with ggoogle for email, and I swear the speed got faster.
Beyond 200+Mbps . Really nice.
AVG, spybot, adaware and ccleaner keep the windows machines lean and clean.
Star computers sold us a gig of RAM for $200. That was back in 2002. I think prices have dropped.

get rid of that yahoo crap you have. you dont need to buy anything at all!you should only have one antivirus program, but you should always have at least 2 spyware/adware scanners to remove things. certain programs detect certain things that others bypass. i have a few cleanup and program suggestions. choose whichever you like. your computer safety programs might not be the safest depending on what they are. but i can guarentee my suggestions are safe. cleaning up your computer can make it run faster. also go to the start menu, then go to RUN, then type msconfig and choose the startup and you can enable or disable certain programs from starting when you boot your computer. but here are my suggestions:
*AVG is not as reliable as AVAST go to http://download.com and download it (search for Avast home) dont register it and when the demo is up, just uninstall it and reinstall it. it also helps because if you download a bad file from limewire or the internet, it alerts you immediately so you can delete it right away. certain AVG programs will be charging for updates soon and thats not good if you cant pay for them you ushould always keep your antivirus up to date. keep Avast home edition open in your toolbar at all times. it moniters alot of potentially harmful things its really great. if you dont have firewall i suggest downloading Zonealarm (which is free) and if you need antispyware, download Spybot search and destroy and superantispyware free edition
you might also want to download ccleaner to keep your computer cleaner make sure you keep any programs you download (that i suggested) updated
as for cleanup tips i
suggest the following; here are a few things to clean up your computer:first go to the start panel and click RUN then type %temp% then delete EVERYTHING in that file but not the file itself.(this will help you clean up your computer a little bit)
Also go to Mycomputer, Click drive C, then click the Windows Folder, then find the Prefetch Folder Open that (dont delete the folder itself) and delete all the items in that.

http://download.com
http://superantispyware.com

i use all of these and my computer has been virus free and running faster then ever
