I have just received a virus that is horrible. The desktop has a picture of a window that says, “Warning! Win32\Adware.Virtumonde” and “Warning! Win32\PrivacyRemover.M64″. I cannot change this desktop.
I am not able to download any updates on yahoo anti-spy. I cannot download any new spyware or adware or malware removal programs. I cannot link to website unless I copy and paste, or write them directly. Even then, half of them do not work. Certain websites, like my.yahoo.com, have chunks missing. I do not want to have to reboot my computer, too many important things.
Please Help!

Go to this website and carefully follow everything that you can. If you are unable to clean it this way, go to castlecops.com and post a hijack this log. These guys are the best and really know what they are doing.
Best of luck! Let us know how it goes.

if you have anti virus software, run a scan,,,if you can,,
Norton,or mcafee, would probably find the culprit.

most probably it is internet explorer. Get a copy of firefox (get it copied on a cd/ thumb drive) and install it on your computer and run it. Most probably you will get your internet access back so that you can continue with the removal process

there’s no real option other than to reboot into safe mode and run a scan. there’s a scanner called NOD32 you might want to go buy that and try it out. boot WITH NOD32 and scan the disk.

Try this program, its a virus tool that we at BT use very often:

It will require a reboot once finished though.

I really feel for you. We just got rid of that SAME virus last night. We experienced all of the symptoms you named. Nothing would completely destroy it until we got Norton. It's finally completely gone and we lost no data. Oh yeah. It's not related to windows in anyway; they're lying. They use the guise of "Antivirus XP" but notice they distort the Windows logo with a stone wall to avoid copyright issues.
