I'm not smart when it comes to technology, but I was wondering. I just bought a laptop, and my family hooked it up to our Verizon highspeed modem, which allows three computers to run on it, according to Verizon. My parents insist that my computer is making theirs go very, very slow whenever my computer is on, but the internet on my laptop works perfectly fine. How is it possible for mine to work ok but theirs to go slow? Also, if I'm downloading a movie on my laptop, would it make their internet go slower?
I'm not sure, because they have an old computer. Could anyone clear this up for me?

you being on the internet on their modem/router would have no effect at all on their computers performance.
it can affect the bandwidth, especially if you're downloading or streaming a movie or other large file.

Ofcource it get slower. You share the bandwidth and when you download a movie you suck all the bandwidth and the other computer is painfully slow.
This effect only the internet speed and not the computer performance.

This can easily be explained. More computers using the bandwidth (internet) the more slower internet speeds are.

It can make the browsing on the internet go slower, not the computer. If both computers use the modem at the same time, you are dividing your bandwidth in 2 so there for your browsing speed can be 50% less than if only 1 pc was using the modem
