You have two things to check.
1) Do you have a licensed copy of XP Pro? Having Windows Vista Premium doesn't give you the right to go to an earlier version so you'll need your own copy.
2) Is the hardware supported by XP? Not all newer hardware is supported by XP. You may want to verify before loading XP.
My approach would be to pick up a new hard disk and pull the one with Vista from the PC vendor out so that if you have to revert, you won't have to deal with the recovery software.
