When you go to install a new AV it will auto detect any program that may be linked to an AV software and will ask if you would like to uninstall it.

NOpe dont do it, just install ONE, and the best one out there is designed by microsoft itself, heres the link http://digg.com/security/Microsoft_Announces_a_brand_new_Virus_Protection_FREE

First off you do not want to run TWO AV programs on your system at a time. This can create issues with the two fighting each other and you can check any tech site where you will find a discussion about running more than one AV program and it is ill advised.

There is not one single AV product that is the magic bullet, it just doesn't exist, they all have shortcomings and not one will detect every virus tossed at it especially if a new unknown, not in their definitions, virus. Pick one and don't be paranoid. Any time you download something always check it for virus activity before using it. You can also check the file against many AV sources at http://virusscan.jotti.org/.

Don A, sorry but the best virus product is most definitely NOT OneCare. Search on the various AV products online and research them.

first off. Uninstall AVG I fix computers. Its cute but we always uninstall it cause it doesnt stop much. We use a program called NOD32. Its the best and uses minimal resources.

Also goto your 'Control Panel' and under Admin Tools. Look in services. And Stop and Disable (by double clicking) the AVG service. and any other previous antivirus that was running at one point. IE symantec.

If there were common files when you uninstalled it, you would've been informed and given a choice about what to do.You should only run one AV at a time because it causes conflicts, that's why your PC slowed down.Avast by itself is a better choice for an AV than your paid AVG,it has a higher and faster detection rate.

well running 2 antivirus programs on one pc is not correct for pc,you must get red of them both and to be honest the best you can use is PCtools antivirus as i used it after checking many other stupid programs and the most stupid are McAfee and Kaspersky and pc become so slow.

you can use PCtools antivirus free or the paid version but it is really good.

may be the new AVAST 4.0 home edition is making your pc slow like what happened with me while trying McAfee,my pc was really really so slow because the program takes alot of cpu usage so uninstall AVAST 4.0 and switch to PCtools antivirus.
