can you help me with my MS Antivirus (the spyware) problem?

August 28th, 2008 · 3 Comments

My pc was attacked by the malaware MS Antivirus. I tried to manually delete it, remove its registry values and dll files as well. My pc was able to recover: no more pop-ups, etc. The spyware diabled my screensaver, desktop background, startup menu, etc. I was able to restore those though.

I now have two problems:

1. I can’t update my Norton 2008 Anti-virus. I tried to go to the Symantec website but I could not. I have a disabled AVG Free Edition as well but when I tried to update it, it couldn’t. I tried to download Kaspersky but I couldn’t open the Kaspersky download site, which is the same case that happened with Norton and Avg’s websites. I find it weird coz I can open internet sites other than antivirus and antispyware websites.

2. I can’t go online Y!Messenger. Whenever I log in, it says: “System is Busy. Please try a little bit later.”

Norton and AVG says there is no virus in my pc. My PCDefender says I am spyware-free. What do you think is my problem?

P.S. After deleting MS Antivirus, there was an instance where my PC was led to www.msantivirusxp.com but was blocked by my Norton. (I’m not sure if this is the correct name of the site though.)

Thank you for any ideas.

It might so happen that your PC OS has been severely damaged by that malware or spyware whatever it was.I would suggest you to format and fresh install the OS.Install the suggested softwares and you are almost totally safe. These are totally freewares.AVG 8 FREE,Spybot Search and Destroy, and Zone Alarm Firewall.Keep all of them updated and relax your mind.Even I am using the same combination.

MS Antivirus is a rogue-antispyware program, typically installed though security exploits and bundled with other spyware/malware (trojan horses, fake video codecs). It’s free scan reports deceptive and irrelevant threats to scare and goad the user into buying the program. We strongly recomend to remove MS Antivirus from your computer. MS Antivirus may also hijack your web browser and redirect you to fake security web-sites (see screenshot below). This application shouldn’t be trusted and is recommended to be removed.
