When I try to remove avast it says:
A setiface error has occurred: 2
Try to reinstall or contact support please.
I go through Control Panel>Add/Remove programs and it always has the same message.
I've also tried to use the avast uninstall utility download from their website and when I run the program it says the following:
The avast! self protection module is enabled. For this reason, the operation cannot be completed.
To complete the operation, either run this program from Windows Safe Mode, or disable the avast! self protection (via Settings > Troubleshooting page).
It's here I get lost. Have no idea how to find Windows Safe Mode or how to get to the self protection thing to disable it.
Anyone else had the same problem or know how to get rid of avast manually.
My computer is an XP version.

Go to the Registry.
Start,Run (regedit) Edit,Find,and Find Next,until the screen says "finished searching the registry"
Remove all listings of the Program,and Reboot.

Right-click Avast! icon in your system tray, choose disable protection, and choose exit the program. Uninstall the program.

To get into safe mode, turn your computer off, then restart and press the F8 button once every couple of seconds until you get a choice menu with the options available to you. You can choose the Safe Mode with Networking option to start your computer in Safe Mode.

Had the same problem, while this is not ideal, i did an overlay install again, rebooted, then uninstalled it, worked for me.

Easy. Right click the Avast "a-ball" icon > Program settings > Troubleshooting > Check-mark "Disable Avast self-defense module" > OK.
