Choosing a firewall for Windows?

September 1st, 2008 · 6 Comments

Hi, I was wondering what is the best firewall.
so
>I have heard a lot of good things about ZoneAlarm (http://www.download.com/ZoneAlarm-Firewall-Windows-2000-XP-/3000-10435_4-10039884.html?tag=mncol&cdlPid=10864451)
is it actually good?
>If not what else (I am prepared to pay $70ish - but obviously I’d rather get something that does the sameish thing for free)

Info about situation
I have a Intel Mac with XP installed. I will run Spore on my XP side(not my mac - it dosent have leapord) and it has the Fat32 system for my XP. I play games on my XP.
Otherwise im a mac person.

Thanks for any advice. Tell me if you are confused by my writing. :)

      Hi

I suggest you stick with the Windows Firewall. For home users this provides adequate protection.

I would recommend you focus on prevention, and not cure (this would be an outbound firewall). For example, keep your software up to date, get a good antivirus, etc.

ZoneAlarm comes in a free flavour too, and it’s good:

Another good free one is C¤O¤M¤O¤D¤O firewall:

It depends on your firewall you are using. I dont use separate programs that installs firewall. You better use an internet security suite because it includes firewall that will not slow down the performance of your PC. There are great suites there and includes ESET Smart Security, worthful and great than Norton and other security suites.
