So here is the deal. Apparently, my computer is supposed to be “the fastest one in the house” (according to my dad). But when I was younger, I downloaded Limewire, And all sorts of different fonts and cursors from sketchy websites (I was young and stupid apparently).
Now, my computer is really slow. It takes about 15 mins to boot up, and it takes about 10 seconds to just respond to my clicks.
I have removed Limewire since then, and tried to get rid of all of the fonts and stuff, but that hasn’t really helped much.
I have Spybot and Symantec to get rid of spyware and viruses, but it is still so slow.
I would ask my dad, but I don’t want him to know that I had Limewire. >.<
Is there a software I can buy that can help me fix it? Or should I just buy a new hardrive and start over?
Thanks!

the simplest thing would be to re-install windows if you still have the CD. Just put it in, restart your computer and follow the directions. in 30 min you’ll have a brand new computer with no viruses. Don’t use Norton or McAffee, they’re bloated and slow down your computer and they don’t even work that well. Download AVG or Avast, they’re free and work just as well. Make sure you have them installed and running before you put any thumb drives or CDs back in your if you backed up your files because there’s a very good chance they are infected too.

Along with the previous answer, you could also format the hard drive. To do this go into my computer, then right click on Drive C:\ and click format. Be careful though because anything on your computer will be wiped along with the hard drive (music, pictures etc.) so move them to another hard drive or a portable one. Unfortunately installing any firewall or spybot after having a computer that is infected traps the virus into the computer.

CCleaner could help you out- http://www.ccleaner.com/
Also, just so you know, reinstalling Windows will also wipe any information you have on the computer along with the viruses.

You don’t need a new hard drive. However, it might be a good idea to re-install the operating system. If you don’t know how to do that, bring it to a computer repair shop to get done.

First try defragmenting the hard drive.usually the “C” drive.
