So the other day my boyfriend asks me to look at the computer when I get home from work. A screen would pop up literally every 5 seconds saying we have so many viruses/worms/spyware, etc on our computer and asks to run a scan. I had recently made a mutt computer…his sister gave us her old computer and I had got a new hard drive for it and put it in, took a hard drive out of another computer we had with a fried motherboard and made it the slave drive, and put Windows XP on it because it had ME and that wasn’t compatible with the DSL we got. But anyway, I haven’t had time to get a good anti-virus program to put on it yet. So last night I went to download.com and got AdAware and AVG anti-virus. I ran the scans on both of them and removed what they found. Before I got those 2, I had downloaded a “free” version of Norton Antivirus 2008…but as soon as it downloaded and installed it said that my free days where up and I had to pay for it. So I tried deleting it and it said that I couldn’t delete it, that I didn’t have the license to delete it. Stupidly, I didn’t think anything of it and got Norton 2009…which ended up being spyware. It pops up every 5-10 seconds wanting to scan and I can’t get that off my computer either.
Sorry for the long explanation…but here’s my real question. I ran the anti-virus and AdAware, but my computer is still running super slow (and it’s not the computer, I checked) and I’m still getting some of the spyware pop-ups I got before, just not as often. Is there anything else I can do to rid myself of them?
I already got an anti-virus, I got AVG from download.com. It scanned the whole computer (took almost 2 hours) and fixed what problems it found.

Firstly, antivirus programs will NOT remove these as they are malicious codecs, although they may find reference to them and remove it but upon rebooting it's back again.
The following free programs have high success rates in removing this parasite and have done so successfully in hundreds of removals:
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:
http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?hhTest=1.
Download, install, update and select Full Scan.
Remove all infections that it finds after scan.
SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition:
http://www.download.com/SUPERAntiSpyware-Free-Edition/3000-8022_4-10523889.html
Download, install, check for updates, then select Scan your Computer, select your drive and select Perform Complete Scan
Spyware Doctor Free Basic Edition - Realtime monitoring:
http://pack.google.com/intl/en/pack_installer_new.html?hl=en&gl=us&ciNum=12
Its free with Google pack, untick all boxes except Spyware Doctor. Download install, update and run.
SmitFraud Removal:
Firstly, download the removal tool from here:
http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php
Then follow the instructions on the page
Spybot S&D:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
Download, install, update and Immunize, turn off Tea Timer then click 'Check for problems' then when complete select all and then 'Fix Checked'
Open Spybot, click on Mode, select Advanced, click on Tools then Resident and untick Resident 'Tea Timer'
Do NOT untick Resident 'SD Helper' as that is your protection.
ONLY IF the problem persists, turn OFF System Restore, Right click My computer > select Properties > System Restore Tab > Tick Turn Off System restore on all drives and scan with the above programs in Safe Mode - tap F8 during boot before Windows splash screen and select Safe Mode.
After scans are complete and machine is clean remember to turn system restore back ON and create a new restore point.
Use RevoUninstaller to remove Norton:
http://www.download.com/Revo-Uninstaller/3000-2096_4-10687648.html?part=dl-RevoUnins&subj=uo&tag=button&cdlPid=10854684
It's faster and better than add / remove applet.
When you run it highlight the item then select uninstall in next window select Advanced and click Next, follow prompts when uninstalled it will scan registry and drive for leftover files / folders, click + sign to expand all results and tick ONLY the bold items and follow prompts.
For antivirus I recommend Avast anti-virus which better definitions, anti-spyware and anti-rootkit built in, faster and more reliable:
