My computer at home is really slow. it takes nearly 30 minutes to load a 3-minute song, and about 20 minutes to load a 1-minute youtube video. I have dial-up, and my mom refuses to switch to high-speed internet or get a new computer. My brother recently upgraded something in the computer. It used to be 120 or so and now it is 256. It may have been the RAM, but I can’t be sure. It doesn’t seem to run much faster than before. I can never wait to use the fast office computers that use DSL. Someone please help!!

Stuff that can cause slow computer:
- Virus programs.
- Files which arent neccessary.
- Background applcations which isnt used.
Thats the 3 most common. I recommend get a better Virus Program, unless ur current is a good one and doesnt need alot of resources. AVG Free is a good one, and doesnt need to kill your computers speed.
Files which arent neccessary can be deleted with several scan programs. I recommend Ashampoo Winoptimizer 5 which cleans your HD, Cookies from the internet and your registry.
Close any background application that you dont need or is using. The less apps. running, the better.
Good Luck.

visit http://www.dailymotion.com or http://www.metacafe.com and try watching video there. if they are also slow, try watching at midnight. even pentium 3 class computer can load youtube videos fast if the connection is 256kbps. u should have 512mb RAM and 733mhz processor.

You have allot of Services and Processes that start up when you boot you’re PC so it will take time to load all those settings.

Are you loading the song from the internet??
Ofcourse the Youtube video is going to take long to load it has nothing to do with the computer it is because of the good old dial up speeds you have.
Things will only improve when you get better speeds which will only happen when you get broadband!!

yea he upgraded your RAM or “memory” as its called.
This speeds upthe computer for a cheap price but still you are held back by your processor speed, internet connection speed…and oher things.
If your are downloading songs from the net it will take long on dileup but if you are playing songs on your computer that were already on your hard drive it should load up very fast. IF that is going slow you need more RAM, (and a faster processor in some cases.)
Computers off the shelf today have 1-2GB of RAM and at least a 1.75GHz Dual Core processor.
I got my desktop for $200 off the shelf and had to upgrade the RAM from 1 - 2GB. It was a $30 price add on but well worth it. I suggest looking for a new desktop if you originally had 120MB of RAM…
slickdeals.net has great deals

if your hardware is slow, then upgrade the processor and ram to atleast 1GB.
If you internet is slow, then upgrade it to DSL. 128 KBps should atleast help in some way. 256 Kbps and above is recommended for videos etc.

It sounds like your computer is very very old, at least 4-5 years possibly more. There is no point in upgrading such an old system, you will be throwing money down the drain.
Even the cheapest new PC would be 50 times faster than what you have. In the US and Canada you can get a decent new dual-core PC for $300, and you can hook it up to your existing keyboard, mouse and monitor.
If your parents can’t afford it, maybe you could save up for one.
