I just switched the case of my computer, and it runs now, but very slow (after overheating the CPU a few times, but it shut off so i dont think any damage there) I was wondering if there is a way to tell why it is moving slow, since something could have gone wrong in the whole switching cases thing (it was running great before) its a P4 2.8ghz cpu.
I think it may be running on less ghz or something since it might be getting hot, so think it may need a new fan/heatsink.. if so can someone send me a link of one that works (preferably newegg) if thats the problem…
Thanks..
btw the specs are all dell dimension 2400 specs…
but with 2 x 512 MB pc2700 Ram, instead of 1.
I replaced the thermal compound on my CPU and it works great!

Yes, check all the cable connections and make sure the memory and everything is seated properly, and if that doesn’t work it’s overheated, but sounds to me like it’s overheated so you should get a new fan and heatsink.

For running slow there are many causes:

Manage your startup:
Open your Start menu -> Click Run -> In the command screen type “msconfig.exe” -> In the “system configuration utility”, click either “service” or “startup” tab -> Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.
De-Fragmenting
