Could I have ruined my monitor?

September 2nd, 2008 · 4 Comments

Hello,

My 22 inch monitor supports 1600X1050 resolution but by accident, i ran my PC at 1600×1200 to it (because the laptop did not detect the monitor’s maximum resolution). My friend with me said that I could have ruined my monitor. Is this true? Just by giving it a higher resolution than its native mode?

Thank you,
Adam
Yes i did see the screen when i ran it at that resolution. It is the new HP w2207 LCD flat screen.

Did you see a picture when you ran it at 1600×1200?

I doubt you broke it. Is it a flatscreen monitor or a CRT one?

No you didn’t. Is it running properly now? If it is, no issues.

Some monitors can start on fire if run above the max resolution. Keep in the normal operating range and you will be fine.

Nothing was ruined. just change the monitor’s resolution back to normal.
