so my laptop is a bit old and more than a little fickle when it comes to wireless internet connections, but I’ve usually had no problem connecting to the internet via password protected routers. This time, however, it seems that when I type in the passphrase (which I’ve already connected to the router and checked to make sure is correct)
it won’t connect. It’ll keep trying to connect, but eventually the error saying “can’t connect to preferred network shows up” I know no one else has had a problem connecting, so I’m confused. Any help?
I think it wants a WEP key, but the netgear router is set for WPA-PSK and doesn't have a WEP key set. Is there a way to change this in my advanced settings? I tried to set it to read WPA-PSK and typed the passphrase but it still won't connect.
It should be able to handle the WPA-PSK (AES) because the options in my association tab on the network properties lists it.
If it isn't able, is there a way to enable it, like updating drivers or something? It's an older dell.

Can the Dell handle the type of password (WEP, WPA/TKIP or AES, WPA2/TKIP or AES) that the Netgear is looking for?
