Dell XPS M1330 monitor malfunction HELP!!!

August 8th, 2008 · 1 Comment

My dell XPS 1330 laptop for some reason or another.. boots and once running for more than 5 minutes the screen just.. shuts off. No reason. I’ve been having trouble with it but it seems like it dives into hibernation mode and won’t budge. The lights are still on indicating that the computer is still physically on but when I push buttons no response and when I push the power button the button itself lights up for 3 seconds then turns of.. no response. Any idea’s as to what would be the issue?

      A few ideas…

Perhaps a fan has died. If there is no fan circulating air, the CPU can overheat, and the computer will shut down to protect it. See if you can hear the fan. Also, blocked vents will do the same thing.

A second possibility is if you have an Nvidia 8400 or 8600 video chip. Nvidia mad a major manufacturing mistake, and all these chips will go bad with moderate use. If so, you might consider yourself lucky (If you’re still under warranty), as they won’t replace the faulty chip unless it dies under warranty.
