Did you know that many women put national security, defense, and foreign policy ABOVE women's issues?

June 22nd, 2008 · 11 Comments

Maybe that would silence Obama supporters who try to persuade women from going to McCain … but I doubt it!

What good is a woman's right to choose if we don't have an experienced president who can keep us safe?

And … wow … here's a shocker! NOT ALL WOMEN ARE PRO-CHOICE!!!

Yes, and they act like Roe V Wade is somehow the only issue we women think about.

I am one of those women! Thanks for making that very important point. It NEVER gets made.

      A star* for you.

Just labeling things as 'women's issues' sounds pretty stereotypical, if not sexist, to me.

Bravo, excellent post. Women are a unique 'minority group'. Unlike ethnic groups, they're not known for the majority supporting one party and sticking together about high profile issues no matter wrong or right. Women use individual choice instead of mob mentality.

      No wait.
you are forgetting that McCain called his wife A "Cu&t" on TV. CAlled Chelsea Clinton "Ugly" and left his first wife for a younger richer woman. He also thought it was funny when a supporter asked him "How do we beat that B%tch" regarding Hillary clinton.

I think women care about a man who says these things.

When Obama supporters supported Obama in the first place it was for their own selfish reasons. Hillary supporters supported Hillary for the good of all Americans. That is why Hillary Supporters are voting for McCain because we care about all American citizens not just a select few.

thats because sometimes, woman care about their families and the welfare of their country before they start thinking about themselves. if you had a choice between being able to vote and not getting the entire world bombed..what would you choose??

and dur!! of course not all women are pro choice!! a lot of religions are against it! (i am of course pro choice.) i am just saying that you have to be able to look at things from other people's points of views before you go slandering presidential candidates because you think your own opinion is the only one thats out there.

Pro Choice and proud of it. I put national security, the economy, healthcare and foreign policy right up there with women's rights. I don't however sit back an expect the president of the united states to make me personally safe. That's a job you have to do for yourself. He can enact laws and watch for problems that can occur but he can't make you safe. No one could have made those people in the towers safe on 911, that's what made it a terrorist attack. Be real and embrace your own power instead of leaning on someone else to do it for you. Be smart and be aware. That's the best you can do and live your life the best you can instead of sitting back and spending all your time criticizing others.

Of course women are interested in things other than abortion.
Women are humans too, interested in their national security and defense, and foreign policy.
But Obama has another way of looking at things besides killing them, and the Republican record on the war sucks.
Maybe if they had had a clear victory it would have been different, but right now it just looks like Republicans in general have messed up the war, and foreign policy, and ignored diplomacy.
Since we can't afford another war, we need another way to do things and still keep our heads up.
The Republicans have led us into a pretty problem, we are in a war with two countries, Iraq and Afghanistan, with enormous debt load and no clear out.
So asking me to vote in another one is beyond puzzling.
McCain has said he wants to put in more conservative judges in the Supreme Court to end abortion nationwide.
This goes against what many conservatives believe, which is that the less government makes our decisions the better off we are.
Those who find themselves to be one issue voters against legal and safe abortions weren't Hillary supporters in the first place, they will always be Republican voters. McCain gains nothing there.
Even women who don't approve of, or want safe abortions for themselves or their sisters or daughters, still don't think we should be forced back into the back alleys.

My interest in how I, my niece, and all women are treated in this country is just as important to me as national security, defense, and foreign policy. Why should I, as a woman, have to choose between these things as though one has to be disposable to get the other right? It's not just Roe v Wade, it's every women's health initiative that John McCain has voted nay on. It's knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt that he thinks women have a "place" they should stay in and be thankful for what they've got and not complain about it. Does a woman have to be pro-choice to care about how her country views her needs and problems?

I am NOT a fan of Sen. Obama. I find myself having to choose between what amounts to two completely different evils. Between a man whose judgment I don't really trust and who I think is dangerously inexperienced and a man who seems to be worse than clueless about Iraq and couldn't give a fig about women's issues. What a choice. Between those two I choose Obama and the hope that he will not only get the brightest minds in our country to advise him, but that he will actually listen to them. I just watched the most suitable and competent candidate endure an unbelievable amount of sexism from the media and from misogynists all over this country for the last 16 months and then get tossed aside like she was nothing but an irritant. Why on earth would I vote for a man who will do nothing for women but try and set them back decades when I was just forced to acknowledge that women have not come near as far as I thought they had in this country? That's hard enough to bear without voting for a man who would only make matters worse.

And while I respect McCain's military history, I have seen nothing that has convinced me that his judgment is superior when it comes to national security, defense, and foreign policy. Instead, I tend to remember the man who tried to convince us he strolled down a Baghdad street safely like he was strolling down Main Street USA while failing to note that he was protected by Blackhawks overhead and forces on the ground. Either that meant he is clueless or simply just as willing as George Bush to pee on my shoes while he's telling me it's raining outside. I'll take a chance on the newbie when faced with that proposition.

That's their opinions. Just like many homosexuals are more interested in those issues than gay marriage.
