Well when you mess around with your PC for a while you end up loosing fragments of files and programs , the defragger puts them back toghether It should of sped up your machine to some extent . If not then it may be a spyware problem . if you can please post your system specs .

You wont notice anything if you do it often but lacking to defragment your computer will slow it down. what defragmenting does is rearrange your hard drive, you cant see it but it helps your computer out. You should defragment about every 2 months depending on how much stuff you install, download, move, or use.

may make little difference try disk clean up first then defrag if that does not work you may just need more memory or you may have a virus

I have an XP machine. every once and a while I do a disk defragment. I generally do this when I load a lot of programs. I do generally notice some pick up in speed but not a lot. Usually if you looking for a lot more speed its going to be found in your internet connection, your mother board and or in the speed of the chips that you are using. Sometimes how much stuff you have on your hard drive if its near capacity can affect the speed. I am no computer expert so take what I say for what you think its worth but I have another computer and a great technician who helps me with all my hardware and software problems. What I gave you is just a very brief synopsis of what he has told me. Good Luck Bob
