Do antivirus softwares send ads so they can lure you into buying their product.?

I scanned my computer with windows live on care, its running fine. Then i get an alert from antivirus 2008 sayn i got 44 trojan horses. Would they say that just to get my money

      You've been infected by a rogue anti-spyware program called Antivirus 2008. These programs use disinformation to extort money out of users. So, yes, you got it absolutely right.

      rogues are most easily removed automatically, by using such tools as Smitfraudfix:
