i’m trying to update the protection on my computer, i’ve got to uninstall any other antivirus protection on my computer first but don’t know if defender is integral to windows like windows firewall is!!

You don’t need to uninstall spybot or adaware, just don’t use any real-time features.
Windows Defender should not be uninstalled… it’s part of Vista (and I’m not even sure you can.) Instead, just turn it off. Open it, go to options, scroll down to admin options, turn off.

Windows defender is an anti-spyware/malware program. It is not an anti-virus. You can leave it on.
